Greetings Reid Ravens!
My career in education began at E.S.H. Greene Elementary (now Cardinal Elementary), where I taught 3rd grade for five years. I joined G.H. Reid Elementary School in 2006 as a Math Specialist. I later transitioned into an assistant principal here at G.H. Reid in 2013.
I grew up in Ashland, Virginia and attended Hanover County Public Schools. I am a graduate of Patrick Henry High School. I received an undergraduate degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Psychology. I earned a master’s degree in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Educational Administration and Autism Spectrum Disorder from Virginia Commonwealth University. I have held the position of adjunct professor for Virginia University in Psychology and Education for 7 years. I have completed all coursework under Grand Canyon’s doctoral program for Educational Leadership. I view a collaborative school environment as the key to creating successful teachers and students. I believe partnerships with parents and community partners are essential to enriching the experience here at G.H. Reid Elementary.
During my free time, I enjoy watching movies, exercising, shopping, and spending time with my teenage son LaVar.

Greetings,
I am so excited to be a part of the team at G. H. Reid Elementary School! This is my 33rd year in education and 13th year serving as a school administrator. I have worked in Richmond Public Schools since the fall of 2002. I have served two other schools Miles J. Jones Elementary and Lois Harrison-Jones Elementary (formerly known as John B. Cary Elementary) prior to joining the G. H. Reid Family. Before moving to Richmond, I worked in Southampton County Public Schools.
I have been a teacher, cooperating teacher for student teachers in college, afterschool/extended day school-based coordinator, Positive Behavior Intervention Supports school-based facilitator, Consistency Management and Cooperative Discipline school-based facilitator, professional development presenter (school-based and college level), summer school principal, assistant principal and interim principal. In my career, I was honored to be chosen as the Teacher of the Year at Miles J. Jones Elementary in Richmond Public Schools and was a top ten finalist. I have also had the privilege of being selected as the Teacher of the Year twice at Ivor Elementary School within the Southampton County Public School District. During the 1998-99 year, I served as Southampton County’s Teacher of the Year representing that district on the state level for Virginia.
I am a native of Southampton County, Virginia. I am a 1985 graduate of Southampton High School. I graduated from Norfolk State University with a B.S. degree in Early Childhood Education. I received a Master’s of Education degree in Educational Leadership and Supervision from Virginia State University. During my moments of leisure, I enjoy spending time with my family more specifically my son, Isaiah. I also love event/wedding planning, shopping, baking, listening to music and going to the movies.
I truly believe all students can learn and should be given as many opportunities as possible to reach their highest potential. As a product of a “village-styled” upbringing, I believe it takes educators, parents, and the community-at-large working cohesively together to foster excellence in education for all students. Together we must construct and cultivate relationships with our students to enhance their likelihoods of academic achievement in a safe and nurturing school environment.
