Sheryl Faison

Reading Interventionist

 

Ms. Faison is a career switcher from Social Work/Substance Abuse and been in education for 23 years. She taught 8th and K-5, Grade Level Chair, Mentor, Extended Day Coordinator, Cooperating Teacher, and Admin Intern for the Summer Exploration Program.

Credentials:  Elem Pre-K-6, Admin. & Supervision, Completing Reading Specialist credential

 

Adrienne Gaither

Reading Interventionist

 

Ms. Gaither has served as a Reading Interventionist for over twenty years and as an Instructional Coach/District Dyslexia Advisor for three years. She has served as a Reading Specialist at an elementary and secondary level. The tenets of structured literacy have been incorporated into her instruction since 2013 when she received Orton-Gillingham training.

 

Samantha Shiflett

Literacy Coach

 

With a B.A.S. in Inclusive Elementary Education from Syracuse University (2014), an M.A.T. in Elementary Education from Liberty University (2017), and a Master’s Endorsement in Reading, Literacy, and Learning from Longwood University (2024), Mrs. Shiflett is a dedicated educator specializing in early literacy. Currently one of the Literacy Coaches at GH Reid Elementary School, she plays a pivotal role in fostering reading development within Richmond Public Schools (RPS), where she has worked since 2020.

Before joining RPS, she was a preschool director at a private K-12 Christian school in South Carolina while balancing motherhood. Early in her career, she worked at a private school specializing in Dyslexia and ADHD, where she became OG trained.

Her commitment to professional growth is evident through her extensive training and accomplishments. She has completed LETRS 1&2 training and served as a team lead for all four years with RPS. Additionally, she was the Extended Day Director for the 2023-2024 school year. Her leadership and dedication were recognized with nominations for Teacher of the Year at GH Reid Elementary School and Teacher of the Month in January 2024.

Amy Weber

Literacy Coach

Amy Weber is a Literacy Coach at GH Reid Elementary School and a proud RPS parent. She began her education career through the RTR Program, a partnership between Richmond Public Schools and Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Amy holds a Master of Education in Special Education (K-12) from VCU and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from James Madison University. She is endorsed in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and is pursuing a Post-Master’s Reading Specialist Endorsement at Longwood University, expected in December 2024. With comprehensive training in the Orton-Gillingham approach, LETRS, and Morphology Plus, Amy is committed to enhancing literacy and language development for all students, especially multilingual learners and students with disabilities.
